Peace in All Directions
There is an interesting system
of cardinal directions in various Sami dialects
adjusted to the geographical features of the peninsula
The main guiding principle is the flow of rivers
the countryside full of valleys and fjords
The starting point is a West-East main axis
in the case of Ume
In Lule Sami the main axis direction is north-west to south-east
Further North and then East
the main direction of the axis changes based on the coastline
of the Scandinavian Peninsula and the flow of the rivers
arriving to the area from Southern regions
first South-west to North-west
then Sourth-North in the northern most regions
In the eastern areas where Skolts
and especially Akkala and Ter Sami people live
the direction of the main axi is North-East to South-West and West-East
"Nuorta" present in all dialects
but the direction it designates is different
depending on the given dialect and the geographical place
shifting meaning while moving
from the Southern most to the Eastern most corner of Lapland
"Nuorta" is North in Southern Same, Ume Samie and Lule Sami
means Northeast Lule Sami and North Sami
and North in the Western part of North Sami
means East in Northern part of North Sami, Inari Sami
and South East in Skolt
and South and South East in Eastern Sami
Peace is "Ráfi" in several Sami languages

I am looking for guest blog opportunities and a position as poet-in-residence. My current project is writing dictionary poems using words in different languages for the English word "peace." You can read some of my poems on Poemhunter .
As poet-in-residence I would write poems on different words in different languages and broadcast them throughout the social media blogosphere. Each poem would link back to your site where the word or language appeared.
I would expect some sort of stipend and a six month to one year placement. Please contact me for details if your organization is interested in having a poet-in-residence to help get your message out. Nervewhisperer@gmial.com
